Chief Executive Officer

Steven Hudson is the Chief Executive Officer of ECN Capital, a leading commercial finance company formed from the October 2016 separation of Element Financial Corporation into two market leading companies – Element Fleet Management and ECN Capital. Prior to his appointment as the founding CEO of ECN Capital, Mr. Hudson served for five years as the Chief Executive Office of Element Financial Corporation.

Under Mr. Hudson’s leadership between 2011 and 2016, Element’s assets increased from just over $400 million to more than $24 billion establishing it as North America’s largest independent equipment finance company and as one of the largest fleet management companies in the world. During this period, Element raised more than $5.7 billion in equity to fund the Company’s growth including its $8.9 billion purchase of GE Capital’s fleet management business in 2015.

An entrepreneur, investor and incubator of successful businesses, Mr. Hudson has a distinguished track record across several business sectors, with deep expertise in financial and capital markets. He is the founder and principal of Cameron Capital, a private investment firm established more than 20 years ago. In 1984 Mr. Hudson founded Newcourt Credit Group. Under his leadership as CEO, Newcourt grew to become a worldwide leader in equipment and asset finance with owned and managed assets exceeding $36 billion prior to its sale to CIT Group in 1999.

Mr. Hudson has been an active director on numerous boards of both public and private corporations and an active community leader and philanthropist.

Mr. Hudson graduated from York University in 1981 with an Honors Bachelor of Business Administration degree and received his Fellowship with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 2000. In 1996, Mr. Hudson received the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.

Jim Nikopoulos is the President of ECN Capital Corp., a leading commercial finance company formed from the October 2016 separation of Element Financial Corporation into two market leading companies – Element Fleet Management and ECN Capital. Prior to this, Mr. Nikopoulos served as Chief Operating Officer of ECN Capital and an executive at Element.

Before joining Element, Mr. Nikopoulos was an executive at TeraGo Inc., a TSX-listed data centre and managed services company. He was previously a Partner at Davies Ward Phillips and Vineberg LLP.

Mr. Nikopoulos is Board Chairman of TeraGo Inc. and an active director on numerous charitable and private boards.

Mr. Nikopoulos earned his Honours B.A. degree (Economics & Political Science) from the University of Toronto and Law degree (JD) from Osgoode Hall Law School. Mr. Nikopoulos was named one of Canada's Top 40 under 40 Lawyers by Lexpert in 2014.

Grier Colter is Chief Financial Officer for ECN Capital.

Mr. Colter has 20 years of experience in finance and most recently served as Vice President and Treasurer of Canadian Tire Corporation where he oversaw treasury, corporate finance and taxation for all business divisions including Canadian Tire Bank. Previous to this, he was Chief Financial Officer of Uranium One Inc. and held senior level positions at Barrick Gold Corporation and Moneris Solutions Corporation.

Mr. Colter earned his Chartered Accountant designation with Ernst and Young LLP. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with Honours from Wilfrid Laurier University.

President Rail & Aviation Finance

David McKerroll is the President of ECN Capital’s Rail & Aviation Finance businesses, having held the same position at Element Financial.

Mr. McKerroll was one of the founders of Newcourt Credit Group, where he served as President of Newcourt Capital which focused on providing structured finance and advisory service in the aerospace, rail, energy and infrastructure segments. Mr. McKerroll subsequently served as the Group CEO of CIT Structured Finance and later as the Group CEO of CIT Capital Finance where he managed a portfolio in excess of US$10 billion.

Mr. McKerroll obtained his chartered accountant designation while working for Clarkson Gordon and he holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University.

Chief Operating Officer Commercial & Vendor Finance (Canada)

Todd Hudson is Chief Operating Officer of ECN Capital’s Canadian Commercial & Vendor Finance business, having previously been Executive Vice President of Originations at Element Financial.

Mr. Hudson has more than 20 years of sales management experience in the Canadian leasing industry. Prior to joining Element, Todd was the President of Hathway Financial, a financial services company that specialized in small to mid-sized commercial credits in the transportation, construction and industrial equipment markets.

Before founding Hathway Financial in 2003, Mr. Hudson held key roles at Newcourt and CIT Group and was responsible for national vendor programs in the transportation, construction and automotive groups.

Chief Credit Officer Commercial & Vendor Finance

Stephen Sands is ECN Capital’s Chief Credit Officer for its Commercial & Vendor Finance business, providing oversight for all credit underwriting and risk management functions. He was Chief Credit Officer, Commercial & Vendor Finance and Fleet Management at Element Financial before the company’s separation into Element Fleet Management Corp. and ECN Capital Corp.

Mr. Sands founded Element Financial Corporation in 2007, before which he served in senior operational and credit underwriting positions within the Canadian equipment leasing industry. This included Chief Operating Officer at Maxium Financial and Vice President, Commercial & Industrial Finance at Newcourt Credit Group.

For several years, Mr. Sands has served as a leader in the Entrepreneurs-in-Residence Program at the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Ivey Business School in London, Ontario. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master degree in Business Administration from the University of Toronto.

Chief Credit Officer Rail & Aviation Finance

Bruce Ells is the Chief Credit Officer of ECN Capital’s Rail & Aviation Finance businesses. He held the same position at Element Financial.

A former Vice President of Credit at Newcourt Capital in Toronto and Chief Credit Officer of CIT Capital in New York, Mr. Ells brings 30 years of risk management and finance experience to the ECN Capital team. He served as Senior Vice President of Project Finance at DBRS before assuming his responsibilities at Element. Mr. Ells previously held senior positions at CCG Trust in Barbados and CIT Structured Finance in New York, and earlier in his career held origination, treasury, risk management and research roles at RBC Dominion Securities, EDC and the Bank of Canada in London, England and Ottawa.

Mr. Ells graduated from Queen’s University with a B.A (Honours) in Economics and a B.A in History going on to earn his MBA in Finance and Accounting from the Ivey School of Business.
